Day 28: 30 Days of Gratitiude...Lola

I've missed a few days in my 30 days of Gratitude. Today I am grateful for this little roll on perfume my sister, Jess, gave me for Christmas. It is call Lola, by Marc Jacobs, and it is nummy. It is perfect to keep in your purse and don't you just feel pretty when you smell good? I at least feel better about my appearance when I smell nice and Lola is a fun name to say. LOOOLAAA! I love you.

Day 21: 30 Days of Gratitude...Music

Music. I love music, many types. I especially love Christmas music and I'm crazy but I like to start listening to it in the middle of November. Most of the time in my car and at my house I have the tunes playing and loud. It is great to clean to great music with a good beat. I love dancing with my kids to fun music, and singing in the car. Good music heightens my mood; it's a great pick me up when you're feeling down and also you can find some good tunes to have a good cry (usually country) if that is what you need as well. The ipod and itunes have enriched my music listening. Isn't technology amazing!

Day 20: 30 Days of Gratitude...The magic of Christmas

I especially love the magic that children bring to the holiday season. Last night I wrapped a few gifts. I put a few from mom and some for extended family under the tree. This morning when they woke and saw the presents, the ran into my bathroom and asked if Santa had come, "is it Christmas?" No, those are from me came the reply. They then proceeded to tell me how I'm the best mom, I love you, etc. They then proceeded to spend the rest the morning as I got ready Asking what day it is and then counting down till Christmas. Andrew even said he wished Christmas was on the 20th. I remember having this same excitement for Christmas as a kid. It seemed it would never arrive. Now it seems we just finished Christmas 2009, and now it's Christmas 2010. Where does the time go. Just today this gentleman commented on how when I get to be his age time will go that must faster. I love my kids and the joy and excitement they bring the holiday season.

Day 18: 30 Days of Gratitude... my parents

Today is my parents 4oth wedding anniversary. 40 years is a long time. My parents are great examples to me. They have always been a great example of the importance of courting while married. This is something they do now and something I saw growing up. Most weeks they went on a date together, and fostered their relationship. I think this is very important to do in a marriage. I'm grateful for there great example to me and am so glad they are my mom and dad. I love you.

Day 17: 30 Days of Gratitude... the phone call

So there is this gal in my Ward; she moved in about the same time as me. She is very social and bubbly and fun. She is also beautiful, she kinda looks like Angelina Jolie. She calls and checks in on me periodically. She checked on me when I was here with the kids and Jeremy was in Texas; she called while I was in Texas to check on us... She continues to call and check in with me now. Just checking to see how I'm doing, if I need any help, if I'm lonely. She is sincere, and genuine. I could learn lots from Tammie. She called me tonight to let me know she was thinking of me. She was worried about how was going to get everything ready for Christmas, cause she is worried about what she needs to get done and she has a partner to help. She offered to come help me wrap gifts next week on Monday or Tuesday evening, whichever is better for me. This is the mother of two, who works full time and has plenty of things of her own to do. I'm continually amazed at how many Christlike individuals are blessing my life. I'm so thankful for my many blessings and especially the example of people like Tammie. Something to shoot for in my own life, stepping outside myself to help someone else. So hopefully next time I have the thought, "I should call so and so," hopefully I will. Sometimes it is just that simple and that impactful on the other end of the line.

Day 16: 30 Days of Gratitude... Tillamook Ice Cream

So a couple of days ago I stumbles across this lovely find. I have always loved Tillamook cheese but did not know till just the other day Tillamook makes ice cream! This ice cream did not disappoint it was the perfect blend of chocolatey, creamy, peanut buttery, with a hint of saltiness in the peanut butter. This is for sure one of my new favorites, brand as well as flavor!

Day 15: 30 Days of Gratitude... The Cleverly's

I'm not sure how to pay a proper tribute to this family, but I'll try. I know the phrase of you really learn to love someone when you serve them, must be true as I truly feel the love this family has for me and mine. I don't know how I got so lucky as to have them in my corner but I am so grateful I do.
The Cleverly's live kitty corner to me. From the time I moved into this house I have had a special relationship with them. It started with Meghan. She was ten when we moved in, in late fall of 2006. Megahn and I would chat lots outside, she would play with my kids. I didn't meet Shauna till the following spring. She was on bedrest with twins and then had bran new twins in January of 2007. I remember the first time I met her. I was outside and she pulled up in her van and introduced herself. The rest is history, we have been fast friends since. I've got her back on her chocolate chip needs, chocolate chips are a staple item at my house, and I buy the good kind. So anytime she found herself baking and was low she knew she could call the Wards. She pretty much has my back on everything else. I guess this is a bit of a one sided relationship, I hope to right this one day. Shauna takes my Andrew everyday before and after school until I get home from work and then has all of my kids every Wednesday. When she originally called and told me of said plan, I was overcome with relief and joy and having my childcare issues resolved. She had also found somewhere (her amazing mother-in-law) for girls to go for the rest of the week. Talk about a friend whose got you covered.
The rest of the family is equally as amazing. I remember Easter of 2009 I was in Utah with the kiddos as Jeremy had headed to Texas a few months before we all went down. I found an Easter Lilly on my porch that morning, with a sweet anonymous card. Upon asking Shauna if it was from her, she informed me it was from Michael her sweet and incredibly smart husband. This was one of those gestures in my life that came at a time I needed it and I know I will never forget it.
I consider Megahn a close friend and am not sure why as a ten year old girl she decided to like me but she did. I'm so glad. We've roller bladed together, she came over and showed me how to roll crescent rolls the other night.
Marta the youngest who is almost 4, is my girls best playmate. I love that they enjoy playing together and am so happy this family is a part of my life. My girls get so excited on Wednesday mornings and will Say, "Yeah it's a Shauna day!"
The boys are all have there great qualities too. Kaleb reminds me so much of his dad. He is smart and loves to read. You've also gotta love the bow tie he wears to church each week. Jacob is the sport lover in the family and is often seen wearing a Jazz jersey. Andrew is the leader of the pack my Andrew rides to school with and I'm grateful my little guy has someone looking out for him. I also love to teas Andrew about possibly marrying my Lexie one day. I know he secretly loves this. Ethan has wormed his way into my heart. His mother is often telling me of his antics and it reminds me of my Andrew. Plus he always want to say hi to me on the phone.
I'm not sure how I got so lucky, but I'm so grateful for this amazing family. They are raising wonderful children whom I admire. I'm hoping to get to heaven through my association with the Cleverly's. I know the Lord answers prayers most often through people, and I'm so grateful they were receptive and open to being an answer to mine. I love you dearly. On Day 15 cheers to the Cleverly's!

Day 14: 30 Days of Gratitude... 12 Days of Christmas

Monday night we had someone start the 12 days of Christmas for our family. I love that I am surrounded my so many good people who step outside themselves to serve me and my family. I hope to learn from all these many examples and pay it forward. My kids are getting excited about the idea of someone leaving us a little gift each evening, and I find myself getting excited to see what tonight's goody will be. Last night Annie said, "lets chase em." Gotta love that it is getting these little ones into the spirit of giving. So to whomever is our Christmas Elf we love it and you. Thanks for spreading a cup of cheer!

Day 13: 30 Days of Gratitidue... the Wish Bone!

These are 2 of my rug rats. A few weekends ago I cooked a turkey and so recently we got to participate in one one of my favorite traditions as a kid, the wish bone! I told the girls to close there eyes, pull and make a wish. They had to give it a few trys but they got it. I had never seen this before, but it was a tie. The top of the wish bone popped of and they were both left with roughly the same size of stick. I guess they both get there wish? Don't know what Lex wished for as she knew she couldn't tell or it doesn't come true, although I think that's bogus advice. Miss Annie wished to be a princess. I guess she forgot that all little girls no matter where are princesses. We will need to re watch the Little Princess. If you haven't seen it, it's a great movie. I think that is it's name...
I remember as a kid always hoping I would be the one to get to do the wish bone. It really is the little things in life that make it special. The joy comes in the details, the little moments that if we aren't careful we miss! Love you girls. I can't wait to keep making so many great traditions with you!

Day 12: 30 Days of Gratitiude... Reminders

Today I am grateful for the reminder I got today at church. The whole block of meetings was very good. I love the Ward I live and and am so grateful to be surrounded by so many good people. Relief Society was an especially good meeting, it was on the Holy Ghost. I was reminded of all the gifts I have received none are as impactful and as this gift; and if I so choose, am able to have with me always. It is funny how we can get caught up in wanting material things and forgetting that all we need we really already have and then some. I feel like in my own life I'm very good at recognizing something is a prompting from the spirit after the moment to act has past. Usually it's not that I'm blatantly ignoring these whisperings it's the failure to recognize them for what they are.
During the lesson we discussed how to be more receptive to the spirit. I think what stuck with me was the idea slowing down. Psalms 46:10 "Be still and know that I am God," kept playing through my mind as the lesson progressed. I hope I will have the wisdom to take the time in my life to stop and reflect, be still, and allow the workings of the spirit to enter my life. I am so busy and spread a little thin at this phase of my life, but I think because of this it that much more important that I follow this wise counsel. My challenge to all: take a little time each day this holiday season to be reflect and be still. God comes to us in all the little things that when we are moving at warp speed we miss; a sunset, a snowflake, the cute little things our children try to share with us, the kind word of a neighbor, or friend. I hope I will remember to, "be still" and recognize the Lords hand and direction in my life.

Day 11: 30 days of Gratitude ... Temple Square

Tonight I took the kids to Temple Square to see the lights. I have always loved this tradition, loved Christmas lights, seeing the Christas, drinking a little of the holiday spirit. It was super crowded, but a good night to go because it wasn't very cold. The grounds were beautiful and it is always fun to be part of a greater whole enjoying the season, partaking of holiday traditions, seeing others with there families and enjoying the festivities. One of my favorite parts of the nights was a conversation I had with Annie. She commented on the pretty temple and asked if I got married in that "big pretty temple." I told her I did and she then informed me she wanted to get married there. For a minute I had a glimpse in my mind of what that would be like and how quickly that time will probably come. I gave her a tight squeeze and just hoped she'd stay little for a long time. They grow and change so fast. It was a fun night; I enjoyed the lights and spending time with my family. It was a large group we went with and we got separated from each other many times, I think because of the crowds. I even found some fun and humor in this. I love this Christmas season!

Day 10 : 30 Days of Gratitude... Accidents

Yep, I am grateful for accidents today. Sometimes they can be funny and this was a funny and beneficial one for me. I was out to dinner at Outback. I hadn't been there in a very long time and it was fun to have an evening out. I was enjoying the nummy bread, and a salad, and one of my favorites, coconut shrimp. It was a busy night at the Outback at it seemed our entrees were taking a bit of time to get there. I heard a huge clanging of dishes and out the corner of my eye I see feet fly into the air. I felt bad for the gal who slipped on the banana peel, or that is how it appeared, I'm sure the floor was maybe a little wet or something. But, it was funny; I couldn't help but have a little laugh. Then I commented to Matt, that was probably our food. Low and behold a few minutes later our waitress informed us that in fact, it was our food. They were really good about getting us our food remade quickly and the comped our meal. So hey, I say drop my food anytime, if I'm gonna get a free dinner out of it. Day 10 sometimes accidents are a blessing, hey 2 of my children fall into this category, and they are 2 of my greatest blessings!

Day 9: 30 days of Gratitude...Homemade Carmels!

I loooove homemade carmels. The making of homemade candies is a Christmas tradition of my childhood that has carried over to my own children. Amongst the homemade goodies, carmels are without a doubt my Christmastime favorite. We made this delectable treat on Monday evening. Now Thursday evening... the pan is licked clean. My kids love them too! So without further ado, the recipe:

2 cups sugar
1 cup Karo syrup
3 cups cream

Combine in medium saucepan, sugar, syrup, and one cup cream on medium high heat. Heat to 230 degrees (softball stage) stirring constantly. Add 2nd cup of cream. Heat to 230 degrees again. Add 3rd cup of cream heat to 230 degrees. You can do the cold water test to check consistency of carmels. Pour in a buttered 9 x 13 pan. Allow carmels to set up. Cut into squares and wrap in waxed paper.
These babies do not disappoint. There is a bit of an art to carmel making, if you under cook they are too gooey, and if you overcook too hard. The trick is to get them just right. It is also a must to stir constantly, as to not burn the carmels on the bottom. Day nine, I am grateful for this delicious treat!

Day 8: 30 days of Gratitude... Pink eye drops

We have been battling pink eye at our house for awhile now. It started the week of Thanksgiving. I already had drops and treated miss Lexie. Then last Thursday All the kids woke up with pink eye. Out of drops. Luckily we got some called in. Now today, I have pink eye. I think we should be done with this soon and I surely hope so because I'm tired of washing sheets and towels. So grateful for pink eye drops.

Day 7: 30 days of gratitude ... God Bless the USA

On this Pearl Harbor day I am reminded of the freedoms I enjoy living in the country. I saw many flags at half staff today and It always stirs my patriotic feelings. I love this country, I feel so blessed to live here, to be raising my children in a land of so many opportunities. I'm so grateful for the men and women who fight and serve to preserve our freedoms.
My grandparents are the poster people for patriotism. They always taught us to do our civic duty and were great examples of being involved in the community; my grandma in probably her seventies was the mayor of her town, my grandpa served on the school board in Beaver county for many years. I'm grateful for my freedoms and for the examples of Grandma and Grandpa Truman, God Bless America!

Day 6 of 30 days of Gratitude...Internet at home!

Today I worked a half day, or even less. I was having the Internet set up at my house finally and they give you a 5 hour block of time to be home. Gotta love that, but hey I got to spend most of the day with my girls. We got a lot done. This is them raking leaves. We never got our fall yard work completed and since it was a bit warmer we tried to get some of the leaves up. I said I was going out to rake and the next thing I know I come across this. They started without me. Today I'm grateful to have Internet access at home. We have foregone this luxury for awhile and it's been fine, but I'm excited to have it back. Hopefully I'll start blogging more. The qwest guy was super nice and he made around 4:30. Sometimes I wonder why they can't give you a little narrower of a window but oh well. Glad it's done, and I'm looking forward to the convenience and of internet at home! Yeah.

Day 5: 30 Day's of Gratitude Good Friends

Yesterday I had some dear friends I grew up with over for dinner. We were missing a few but it was a great evening with good food and good company. I always love getting together at this time of year with the gals I grew up with. They in so many ways helped to mold and shape me into who I am. When I'm with these individual I always hope the phrase, "birds of a feather flock together" is true; cause if it is, I'm doing ok. They have all grown into amazing women who I admire so much. My friend Natalie was there and it was so fun to see her, work with her in the kitchen. She is the mother of 3 and the oldest is 2 as of September. She is handling things beautifully and she is been a part of my life since I was 3 just to give you the history. As little girls we were connected at the hip and I have always felt so blessed to have her in my life.
Then we had Alicia. She moved into the neighborhood I grew up in when I was in 5th grade. She has always been a great example of self discipline. She knows what is important in life, and she always makes the right choice.
Heather and her hubby were also able to make it. Heather has 3 little boys and is amazing mother. This amongst many other great attributes is probably what I admire most about her.
Everyones spouse was able to make it, we had two babies and no kids, which sometimes makes catching up more fun. I am grateful for good friends in my life, the old and the new. The blessing of friendship is one I've always had an ample portion of. There is not shortage of good people in my life. Thanks guys for a great evening, we need to do it more!

Day 4: 30 Days of Gratitude,

At this Christmas season I feel a deep sense of gratitude for my Savior. Lately I have been spending more time thinking about my need for the atonement in my life, how it has blessed my life this past year, which has been a difficult one, and how I have a continued daily need for repentance in my life. Some days more than others. I am so grateful for a Savior, for his awareness of me, aware of the details of my life; my individual struggles and challenges, my heartaches, mistakes and how he is always there regardless of my errors. Sometimes it makes me mad at myself that I will repeat the same mistake, but I often do which is the challenge in repentance, not continuing to make the same mistakes. I feel so blessed and know my prayers are heard and answered and so often through the people in my life. I sometimes don't feel worthy of all I've been blessed with, but I am grateful. So on day four I am so grateful for the birth of our Savior, I'm grateful for the beauty of the season the joy and fun it is to celebrate. I love the magic of this time of year and hope to instill in my children that the magic is because of the message of hope and peace our Savior brings; all the decorations, lights, presents etc. are a symbol and reminder of a greater message. I love this time of year and am so grateful for my Savior.

Day 3 of 30 days of Gratitude... Little Anna

I'm two days late in copying Joc's 30 days of gratitude, but I think it's a great idea especially this time of year so sorry Joc for copying but I'm going to join in. Today I'm grateful for this goofy girl. She talks in her sleep. Last night as I was moving her from my bed to hers, she said something about, "I don't like that hairy..." boy or beast I'm not sure but it was "b" something. The other night she said something about a puppy with arms outstretched. She is a funny girl a bit stubborn and a bit contrary at times but she is sweet and funny too. One of my most favorite things about her is her deep raspy voice. Ask my sisters, it's the cutest thing ever.
She loves her big sister and imitates so much of what she does. Poor Lex, I'm always on her to be an example.
Annie was a dream to potty train, although recently she's started to regularly wet the bed. I caved and bought pull ups.
Her favorite bed time song is "I love the Mountains". She loves books, princesses, dressing up, make up, trying on clothes, to my dismay.
I am grateful for this girl. I love you Anna Banana.
